About

ABOUT

Jon Willinger has been studying and playing music since age seven. At thirteen, he was already playing blues and folk guitar at radio concerts. By 15 he was gigging, playing guitar, flute, and keyboards with various rock and blues bands at every sort of venue imaginable.

He went to NYU and played in the NYU Big Band under the direction of the legendary Jimmy Guiffre, while also playing with society orchestras including the Lester Lanin and Ray Block organizations. He studied with a number of well-known jazz and classical musicians including Joe Pass and Alberto Valdez-Blaine and along the way added saxophone to his repertoire of instruments.

The Jon Willinger Trio is dedicated to playing mainstream jazz, especially the music of the great American songbook as well as Brazilian bossa nova and jazz standards.
